Our team of refugee speakers have been invited to give talks at the popular monthly Talks at Six event, on 26th March. A Talks at Six volunteer came to our Refugee Week event in June 2025, and learned so much and found the refugees’ stories so moving, that she suggested they give similar talks for the Talks at Six audience. This is a great opportunity for diverse refugee experiences of leaving home and settling in Chichester to be heard by other local residents.
The event will begin with an introduction by Charity Manager Kathryn Crosby, followed by talks from:
A feminist activist from Afghanistan, who was forced into hiding and then to leave her country due to her high profile work and simply for being a woman.
A young man who took the difficult decision to escape Pakistan with his family, due to persecution and threats of violence for being Ahmadiyya Muslims, a religious minority.
A political activist imprisoned in China, whose captors threatened his family. Once he was released, he fled to the UK with his wife and young daughter.
A former employee at the British embassy in Sudan, who had to leave everything and everyone as soon as war errupted, to save her life, and is now working in refugee support.
