Sanctuary Selects: A Collaboration with Pallant House Gallery

We are thrilled to announce ‘Sanctuary Selects‘, a special exhibition of works curated by local refugees and asylum seekers at Pallant House Gallery. The project showcases the power of art to transcend language and cultural barriers, offering a fresh perspective on community collaboration, and is the result of the continued partnership between Sanctuary in Chichester and the gallery, and the desire of Pallant House Gallery to be as inclusive as possible in their provision.

About the Exhibition
Over the past few months, participants from Sanctuary have had the opportunity to explore Pallant House Gallery’s remarkable collection of 20th and 21st-century prints and ceramics from the Golder-Thompson Gift. They selected pieces that resonated with them and shared their responses through accompanying labels. This has sparked meaningful conversations among participants about art’s diverse interpretations and emotional impacts.

Bec Hopkins, a volunteer with Sanctuary in Chichester (and local artist) who has been coordinating this project said:

“Art transcends languages and connects all of us. What better way to learn from each other than to enjoy art? This exhibition serves as a platform for refugees and asylum seekers to share their perspectives and experiences with the wider community, aligning with the shared goals of Pallant House Gallery and Sanctuary in Chichester.”

Sanctuary Selects: Voices from our Community is a FREE exhibition and runs from 6 October 2023 until 4th February 2024 in the Print Room at Pallant House Gallery.
