Six months ago; it seems like a different world! We had a few events in the couple of months leading up to lockdown…
Our Christmas/ New Year party at the end of December was lovely, full of warmth and lots of Christmas treats, including crackers and mince pies!
The younger children had a fantastic day hosted by Chichester Festival Theatre, with loads of activities including an animal dance performed during a concert. It sounded like the volunteers and parents had as much fun doing animal dances as the children!
Finally, there was a trip to the Aldingbourne Centre in mid-February. It was a very chilly day, but several families braved the mud and the cold to enjoy seeing a wide range of animals, and petting some of them. Highlights were the tame goats and magnificent peacocks that – due to the time of year – were keen to show us their impressive feather displays.
We found a sheltered spot for a picnic that included delecious Syrian and Afghan specialities. Some of us warmed up in the soft play area, while the children played inside and used the outdoor sand and water play equipment.
We didn’t think that would be the last event or outing for many months to come.
