The weekly drop-in art club, set up by sculptor Kate Viner, aims to provide a creative outlet for some of the children to express themselves, develop their artistic skills, and build confidence.
Kate has invited other artists to lead sessions and share their skills with the children. We have recently welcomed SiC supporter Katie Sollohub and volunteer Bec Hopkins.
Katie’s shell and pebble sketching session was a huge hit with the children as she introduced them to sketching with graphite and charcoal, focusing on natural objects like shells and pebbles and allowing the children to explore different textures and shades while learning about the natural world. They produced some beautiful drawings.

Bec’s collage session was a fun new technique for the children to experiment and play with. Based on a couple of plants Bec brought in with her, the children snipped and glued away to create some lovely, vibrant compositions.

“It was a joy to be back at the drop-in and see lots of familiar faces,” said Bec. “I loved teaching collage and playing with paper with the children. They are so sweet and very talented little artists and I look forward to seeing more masterpieces from them in future sessions.”
The art club provides an outlet, allowing the children to channel their emotions into something positive and to take pride in.
