We are very sad to announce the death of Joy Constantin, a much-loved volunteer who brought huge enthusiasm, creativity and joy to the children at the drop-in craft table. Here is a tribute for her from her friend and craft table colleague, Lynne Waylen.
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside fellow volunteer Joy Constantin at the Sanctuary drop-in. It was obvious from our first joint art session that Joy delighted in the company of children, encouraging them to play and create or just talk.
Never short of conversation, warm and welcoming, the children were naturally drawn to her genuine interest in them as individuals.
She gave them time and space to develop their skills both creative and linguistic at their own pace.
Joy certainly lived up to her name, always cheerful and positive, even when – as many of you would have witnessed – it was clear that she was struggling with fatigue in the latter stages of cancer.
A tour de force, a successful creative business woman who throughout her life supported many less fortunate than ourselves. For her 80th birthday she asked friends not to bring her gifts, but to donate towards a fund enabling children at Sanctuary to enjoy a day out.
Generous and caring, fun to be with, Joy will be greatly missed and remembered with much affection.
Lynne.
