As spring turns to summer, the Sanctuary in Chichester allotment is growing in both produce and participation. A group of volunteers and beneficiaries meet regularly to maintain the site, plant and tend seasonal vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers, and enjoy a couple of hours outdoors.
Recent developments include the addition of a neighbouring plot, generously offered by another allotment holder. This extension provides access to a shed and seating area, giving the team more space to grow produce, care for fruit trees, and socialise.
Volunteer and co-project lead Mike Mansergh said, “Glorious sunshine and warmer weather, helped by regular watering has seen our crops on the allotment growing rapidly. Having harvested the remaining leeks last week, we were able to distribute amongst our beneficiaries a healthy crop of strawberries picked this week, and the gooseberry and current bushes are heavily laden with fruit which is ripening as summer approaches.
“We encourage volunteers and beneficiaries to join us for regular sessions each week. Come and enjoy sharing in the tending of our garden and the companionship of outdoor activity.”
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this peaceful, practical project.
