In March, Sanctuary in Chichester’s efforts to integrate and support our community saw significant progress across several initiatives led by our Pathways to Independence Manager Kerry Foster. A follow-up visit to Chichester Library allowed three women from the hotel to register and explore the library’s resources, including free IT support and courses. This visit builds on the success of December’s registration drive, which saw as many as twenty families sign up to participate.

A session with Graylingwell Chapel on March 13th opened up volunteer opportunities for nine attendees. Roles varied from chapel maintenance to youth work, with all participants finding a suitable position to contribute their skills and hopefully begin soon.

On March 20th, Kerry and Claudie facilitated a trip for eight individuals to an NHS career fair in Crawley. The event targeted refugees and asylum seekers interested in the healthcare sector. It provided valuable networking opportunities and a pathway for those looking to re-enter or kickstart their careers with the NHS.

Additionally, we are very grateful that UK Harvest has responded to our suggestion for volunteer training and is now offering sessions to ensure our beneficiaries are well-prepared for starting new roles there. This initiative is part of a broader effort to support our community members in finding meaningful volunteer work, with current placements including Graylingwell Chapel, Stonepillow, UK Harvest, St Wilfrids, and Age UK.
