Give Peace a Chance! – Benefit concert, featuring Ukrainian Volya choir

The Give Peace a Chance! concert held in The Assembly Room on 24th Februrary (to mark a year on from the Russian invasion of Ukraine) was “defiant and joyous!”, reports our Trustee and Drop-in Lead, Jude Clouston. The concert was held to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees living locally. The room was packed and the Mayor of Chichester, Julian Joy, was among the audience members.

The concernt included The Beatles’ music performed by cover act With The Beatles, and featured the Volya Ukrainian Choir, which was formed last year by Ukrainian women living locally, some of whom come to our weekly drop-in. The Volya Choir sang a number of traditional Ukrainian songs including last year’s Eurovision Song Contest winner, Stefania (KALUSH), as well as The Beatles’ song All You Need is Love and Give Peace a Chance by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The choir – made up of women and children aged 3 to 60 who have all arrived in our area having escaped the conflict – performed at our New Year party too.
